Hollywood filmmaker James Gunn has followed the footsteps of actor/rapper Donald Glover in supporting the venture capitalist for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

AceShowbiz - "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn has joined Donald Glover in backing businessman Andrew Yang for U.S. President.

Yang, a venture capitalist from New York, is an outsider for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination but has been rising in the polls and secured a major coup by signing up Glover as a creative consultant to his campaign last month (December 2019).

Now, he has secured the support of Gunn, who has been swayed by radical policies that include a universal basic income for all Americans.

"Andrew Yang is willing to discuss the tough issues our country is facing right now, instead of running from them, and come up with positive, unique, and excitingly revolutionary new ways to tackle the future," the director said in a press release.

"In a time when so many politicians are out to serve only themselves or whatever small group makes up their base, I believe Andrew can help us make a better America for all Americans. Hope and Ingenuity 2020!"

After coming on board as Yang's creative consultant, Glover held a public pop-up fundraiser in Los Angeles with the candidate, where fans could buy exclusive merchandise designed by the rapper and actor.

Yang is trailing frontrunners Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren in the polls, ahead of the first Democratic Party primary caucuses and votes next month (February 2020). The winner of the primaries will take on U.S. President Donald Trump in November's election.
