AceShowbiz - The 77th annual Golden Globes is currently under way at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Kicking off the Hollywood award season on Sunday night, January 5, the Ricky Gervais-hosted event is honoring excellence in film and television, both American and International.

The first winner announced that night was Ramy Youssef, who was named as the winner of Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for his performance on his self-titled show "Ramy". "This is thanks to God and Hulu," Youssef said, adding, "Everyone's like is this an editor?" He also joked about his mom who was actually rooting for fellow nominee Michael Douglas.

The next award, presented by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, went to Russell Crowe. Edging out Christopher Abbott ("Catch-22), Sacha Baron Cohen ("The Spy"), Jared Harris ("Chernobyl") and Sam Rockwell ("Fosse/Verdon"), Crowe successfully walked away with the trophy of the category of Best Actor in a TV Series, Limited Series or TV Movie. He gained the critical acclaim for his portrayal of Roger Ailes on "The Loudest Voice".

As Crowe was not in attendance as he's currently in his native Australia, Aniston read a message from the actor. "Make no mistake. The tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based. We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is," read the message.

Also among the early winners was Stellan Skarsgard, who was honored with a trophy of Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made Television for for his stunning acting on "Chernobyl".

"I was so sure that I shouldn't win that I already thanked everybody," he said in his acceptance speech. The actor later joked that people would never tell his emotions because he doesn't have any eyebrows, unlike Colin Farrell.

As for Best Television Series - Drama, the award went to "Succession". The cast of the HBO series took the stage to say thank you for the win. It marked the fourth for the cable giant to win the accolade as the other victories were for "The Sopranos" (1999), "Six Feet Under" (2001) and "Boardwalk Empire" (2010).

One of the biggest awards, meanwhile, was presented to Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The "Fleabag" actress came out as the winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for her performance on HBO's tragicomedy series.
