Sitting down with Jennifer Lopez for 'Variety Studio: Actors on Actors', the 'Batman' star admits the fantasy movie series is a 'weird' saga and he has no idea why it blew up the way it did.

AceShowbiz - Robert Pattinson shares his honest thoughts about the "Twilight Saga" movie series that helped catapult him and Kristen Stewart to fame, more than a decade after it became a worldwide phenomenon. Instead of raving about the franchise, the British actor admits he found the movie's premise "weird."
The Edward Cullen depicter talks about the vampire-themed movie, which was released in 2008, during an interview with Jennifer Lopez for "Variety Studio: Actors on Actors". "I mean it's a weird story, 'Twilight'," he says, confiding he has no idea why it turned out to be a huge success. "It's strange how people responded."
He explains why the story doesn't make sense to him, "I guess the books, they are very romantic, but at the same time, it's not like 'The Notebook' romantic. 'Twilight' is about this guy who finds the one girl he wants to be with, and also wants to eat her. Well, not eat - drink her blood or whatever. I thought it was a strange story. Even the way I promoted it, I was very open about how strange I thought it was when I was doing it. Then afterward, I didn't make a conscious decision at all to do smaller things. I've just kept doing what I wanted to do in the first place."
Pattinson also acknowledges the risk taken with the "Twilight" franchise, which is based on Stephenie Meyer's 2005 novel of the same name. "I mean with 'Twilight', it wasn't really an established thing. To me, Catherine Hardwicke, who directed it, had done 'Thirteen' and 'Lords of Dogtown'. They were little movies, and they were kind of hard-core. Kristen [Stewart] was in stuff as well; she'd been in 'Into the Wild' and some other things. And it was very indie," he shares.
Asked by J.Lo if he thought "Twilight" "was going to be a 'Lost Boys' type of thing," the 33-year-old star replies, "Exactly."
Pattinson stars as a vampire, while Stewart portrays his human lover Bella Swan in all five installments of the franchise. The movies collected a combined gross of $3.34 billion worldwide.
