Beyonce Knowles and her sister Solange get tested for mutated gene after Mathew Knowles contacted his daughters to tell them about his battle with breast cancer.

AceShowbiz - The cancer diagnosis of Beyonce Knowles' father has affected his entire family. In an interview on "Good Morning America", Mathew Knowles told the host Michael Strahan that he reached out to his family including his famous daughters when he learned of his health issues.

38-year-old Beyonce and her younger sister Solange Knowles, 33, have got tested for mutated BRCA2 gene soon after their dad was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"The first call was to my family, because this is genetics - it means that my kids have a higher chance, a higher risk (of getting cancer), even my grandkids have a higher risk, and they handled it like they should - they went and got the test," he said.

Mathew went to see a doctor after noticing a "small, recurring dot of blood." "It was very clear that I had breast cancer," he recalled. "From a man's perspective, I'm thinking, 'Why me?' " He's on the road to recovery after having surgery in July.

Because of his breast cancer diagnosis, he was warned by his doctor that he's prone to suffer from prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer or melanoma. So he will continue to have regular mammograms and other checkups to make sure he's free from the disease.

"I'm doing really good," he said. "I stopped drinking, I just wanted to have a clean bill of health… Exercise, meditate. Things that used to be important are not important to me now. I just look at the world differently."

"I'm hoping by me coming here today and speaking about it, letting folks know that you can survive this, but it has to be early detection," he continued. "I can't overemphasize the world 'early' (enough)."
