The British actress has to adopt an old-timey American way of speaking in the new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel directed by Greta Gerwig, but people are confused by her accent.

AceShowbiz - People are not amused by Emma Watson's American accent in the first trailer for Greta Gerwig's "Little Women (2019)". All actresses, including Watson who portrays Meg March, have to adopt an old-timey American way of speaking in the movie, but some are confused as she sounds somewhere in between American and British.

Following the release of the trailer, people took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Watson's accent and it's suffice to say that they're not a fan of it. "WHY DOES EMMA WATSON HAVE A BRITISH ACCENT IN LITTLE WOMEN??? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!" a confused fan asked.

Another roasted the "Harry Potter" star, "wait was emma watson doing an accent i literally couldn't tell lmao." Another called out the 29-year-old British actress, "i cannot breathe wtf accent is emma watson trying to do."

"emma watson's american accent locked up in azkaban," another poked fun at Watson's way of speaking in the "Little Women" trailer, before adding, "does emma watson's accent count as bullying." Another said it's not a surprise anymore since Watson has already shown her American accent in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". "Who lied to emma watson and told her american accent was good u thought she knew after perks of being a wallflower," the said user commented.

"Little Women" is an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel of the same title. Set in 1860s New England, it explores the lives of the March sisters in the aftermath of the American Civil War. The story unfolds as each sister is determined to live life on her own terms with their different dreams.

Saoirse Ronan portrays Joe, Florence Pugh is Amy, Eliza Scanlen stars as Beth, with Timothee Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March. Gerwig also writes the script of the movie, which is due out on Christmas Day, December 25, in the United States.
