Hours after his emotionally-charged interview was aired on 'CBS This Morning', the 'I Believe I Can Fly' hitmaker finds himself being taken into police custody for owing more than $160,000 to ex-wife.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly has been arrested in Chicago, Illinois hours after his bizarre new TV interview debuted in America - for allegedly owing more than $160,000 (£121,000) in child support to his ex-wife.

The singer will reportedly be held in Cook County Jail until he pays the full amount following an appearance in court on Wednesday, March 06.

Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari has confirmed Kelly was taken into custody and will be transferred to the county jail.

His next court date on the child support matter is set for 13 March.

Kelly's publicist, Darrell Johnson, told reporters his client arrived at the hearing prepared to pay up to $60,000 (£45,500), but the judge demanded the full amount.

The "I Believe I Can Fly" hitmaker also spent a weekend behind bars last month before he could raise bail after he was arrested on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four women, including three who were underage at the time of the alleged assaults.

Kelly has been dogged by mounting sexual abuse claims linked to damning docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly". He sat down for an emotionally-charged interview with CBS This Morning on Tuesday and the first segment from the chat with Gayle King aired hours before the singer was back in custody.

During the interview, he broke down as he defended himself against multiple claims of sexual assault and kidnapping.
