Calling the lawsuit 'frivolous' and 'groundless,' Heard's attorney says Depp's actions only prove that 'he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior.'

AceShowbiz - Amber Heard has responded after her ex-husband Johnny Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against her. In a statement released to the press, the actress' legal team slams the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor for trying to "silence" her.

"This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp's repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard," her attorney Eric M. George says in the statement, adding that "she will not be silenced." He continues, "Mr. Depp's actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior."

George adds, "But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self-destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team."

Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million for defamation, alleging that her domestic abuse accusations against him were part of an "elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity" and "advance her career." The actor's legal team went on claiming, "Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator."

Heard, who filed for divorce from Depp in May 2016 after a year of marriage, detailed the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her then-husband in an op-ed for The Washington Post in mid-December last year. In his lawsuit, the 55-year-old actor claims the op-ed is the reason why he was dropped from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

He additionally claims that Heard started having an affair with Elon Musk one month into their marriage. "Unbeknownst to Mr. Depp, no later than one month after his marriage to Ms. Heard, she was spending time in a new relationship with Tesla and Space-X founder, Elon Musk," the documents state. Musk allegedly had many "late night" visits to Depp's house.

Heard and Depp finalized their divorce with $7 million settlement, which she donated to charity.
