A slew of celebrities vocalize their disapproval in the wake of the U.S. President's controversial address as Cher tweets that he has no heart and Bette Midler labels him attention seeker.

AceShowbiz - Cher and Bette Midler are among the stars slamming U.S. leader Donald Trump over his controversial address about the government shutdown on Tuesday, January 08.

The U.S. government partially shut down on December 22 (2018) after Republicans, Democrats and the President failed to reach an agreement over the funding for a wall he hopes to erect at the U.S./Mexico border to help curb illegal immigration.

Almost 800,000 federal employees are not able to work or receive pay because of the shutdown and on Tuesday President Trump addressed America to make a case for the wall.

"All Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration," he said during the speech. "It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages...".

However, many celebrities are hitting back, accusing Trump of lying and manufacturing a crisis. They are also criticising him for his now-defunct policy that separated families that came over the border illegally.

"trump HAD 2 YRS 2 LIE WOLF, (he had) ALL BRANCHES Of GOV (government), & TOTAL CORRUPT POWER," vocal critic Cher writes. "WHERE WAS HIS CRISIS THEN. WHAT HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IS HE SPEAKING OF, THE ONE WHERE HE RIPPED BABIES FROM MOMS ARMS... HE HAS NO (heart) (sic)."

"munchausensbyproxy We're living it every day," Midler adds, referring to the mental disorder where a care taker deliberately makes someone sick or lies about a person's condition for attention. "It might be called something else; a person holds an entire nation hostage so that they will pay attention to him. What is that called?? Anyone?? (sic)."

Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman, Mia Farrow, and Rose McGowan have also criticised the U.S. leader on social media.
