AceShowbiz - Three months after releasing "Head Above Water", Avril Lavigne unveiled the follow-up to the single on Wednesday, December 13 along with its music video. Titled "Tell Me It's Over", the music video was directed by Erica Silverman and chronicles a tumultuous relationship between the blonde singer and her boyfriend.
The retro video first starts by showing off the happy moments of the lovebirds, celebrating Christmas together and cuddling up together while enjoying wine. Things quickly go south after he smashes her phone on the ground amidst a fight. Her boyfriend tries to make it up by showering her with kisses, but she isn't having it.
"Tell me it's over/ If it's really over/ 'Cause it don't feel like it's over whenever you're closing the door, no/ So tell me it's over," Avril sings on the retro-pop song as scenes of her boyfriend packing things up and leaving their home flicker on the screen. Things seemingly end well for them, as her boyfriend is seen coming back as the video comes to a close.
In a statement, Avril called the song an "anthem about being strong, finally putting your foot down and closing the door on a relationship that you know is wrong after time and time again of falling for their games."
"The vocals and the lyrics are very vulnerable which is reflective of the feelings I had in relationship like this," she continued saying of the song. "I wanted to write something classic and have been inspired by some of the timeless queens I listen to everyday at home, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. They represent women who stand up for women and aren't going to put up with a man's bulls**t anymore!"
"Tell Me It's Over" is among the new material for Avril's upcoming sixth album "Head Above Water". It is expected to drop on February 15, 2019.
