A few days after a ring fight with wrestler Nick Gage left him with a deep cut in his neck, the former husband of Courtney Cox tells reporters that he is lucky to be alive.

AceShowbiz - David Arquette is lucky to be alive after slashing his neck during a recent wrestling match.

Over the last few months, the "Scream" actor has been trying his luck as a wrestler, but after suffering a gory injury on Friday, November 16, he has vowed to quit fighting in hardcore "death matches".

Talking to reporters at People.com after he was discharged from hospital, David said the neck gash nearly cost him his life.

"I'm lucky to be alive. If I had been cut in the jugular, I probably wouldn't be here right now," he admitted.

Describing how the injury came about during his fight with wrestler Nick Gage, he continued: "Sometimes they use those florescent light tubes and I got cut and started seeing dripping blood and I panicked. I turned around too quickly and the end of a broken bulb got me in my neck. It was gruesome."

Following the bout, the 47-year-old, who'd cut part of his neck muscle, was rushed to hospital to have the injury sewn up.

However, after being released, he decided to check back in because he was suffering from shivers and swelling.

"Doctors call that The Box because it's such a dangerous place to get punctured. It was really scary," he added.
