Issuing an apology for the tour cancellation, a spokesperson for the Aerosmith guitarist explains the decision for him taking time off was made after his recent hospital visit.

AceShowbiz - Aerosmith star Joe Perry has cancelled his upcoming tour as he continues to recover from a recent medical emergency.

The guitarist collapsed backstage after performing with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 10 November.

Paramedics had to put a trachea down his throat to clear the air path before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a breathing issue.

The 68 year old remained under doctors' care for five days before he was discharged on 15 November, and Perry recently reached out to fans online to assure them he is OK: "Doing well, thanks for all the love and support!," he wrote on Twitter.

He has not shared the exact reason for his health scare, but sources close to the guitarist claim his illness was a combination of allergies and fatigue, which apparently exacerbated breathing problems he's had his whole life.

Unfortunately for fans, Perry has opted to cancel his tour, which was set to begin next week, November 30.

A spokesperson tells WENN, "He has cancelled his fall headlining shows as he continues to take some time off following his recent hospital visit. While doctors have released Perry from care, with the dates set to begin November 30 and going through December 16, the Aerosmith guitarist will now take the rest of the year off."

"Joe again would like to apologize to the fans who were planning on coming to the shows and looks forward to seeing them again in 2019. Refunds are available at point of purchase."
