AceShowbiz - Kevin Smith has shed an incredible 51 pounds (23 kilograms) on the advice of doctors following his heart attack.
The Clerks director nearly died when he was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery back in February after falling ill at the end of a comedy gig in Glendale, California.
On Sunday, August 26, the newly slim actor and filmmaker posted a snap of himself on Instagram that revealed his new shape and that he'd completed the weight loss challenge his doctor had set him.
"Six months ago from right now, I was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack I'd had the night before," he captioned the image. "When I went to my Doctor a week later, she told me, 'The best thing you can do for yourself now is to lose 50 pounds.' Half a year later, I can report that I followed Doctor's orders. I started at 256 and now I weigh 205. This is the lightest I've been since high school (sic)!"
However, Kevin isn't ready to stop there; he intends to keep dieting in the hope he can get down to 195 pounds (88 kilograms).
He concluded his message by writing: "But for now, I'm ecstatic to have reached this chunky milestone!"
The comedy star, who now hosts his own podcast with his producing partner Scott Mosier, previously revealed that he was totally unaware he was having a heart attack until a doctor informed him before he was wheeled into surgery.
The 48-year-old told E! News: "He's like, 'You're having a massive heart attack right now, you didn't know? They didn't tell you?' And I was like, 'No'. The doctor saved my life."
In an attempt to enhance his wellbeing, Kevin has consulted nutritionists and has been adopting a vegan diet in the hope of counteracting the cholesterol that caused his life-threatening health scare.
