In addition to lending his voice for the character, the 'Mummy' actor will be appearing in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele.

AceShowbiz - DC Universe's live-action series "Doom Patrol has added Brendan Fraser to its growing cast. "The Mummy" actor has been tapped to provide the voice for Robotman, Deadline reports.

Robotman is a former race car driver Cliff Steele before he was involved in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff's brain was saved by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body.

In addition to lending his voice for the character, the "George of the Jungle" actor will be appearing in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele. Joining Fraser in the role of Robotman is Riley Shanahan. Shanahan will provide the physical performance of the character on stage in full body costume.

Written by Jeremy Carver, "Doom Patrol" is a reimagining of one of DC's strangest group of outcasts, Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Caulder, they're called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. Banding together, these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.

The series stars April Bowlby ("Titans") as Elasti-Woman, Dianne Guerrero ("Orange Is the New Black") as Crazy Jane, and Joivan Wade ("The First Purge") as Cyborg. Kelsey Grammer is rumored to be a frontrunner for the role of Dr. Caulder.

Jeremy Carver writes "Doom Patrol" as well as serves as executive producer. Also executive producing the series are Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Prods' Sarah Schechter. Berlanti Productions produces in association with Warner Bros Television.

The original Doom Patrol was created by Arnold Drake and Bob Haney in 1963. "The World's Strangest Heroes" originally consisted of The Chief, Robotman, Elasti-Girl and Negative Man. The team has often been compared to Marvel's more successful X-Men franchise because of their lack of cultural acceptance within the DC Universe, the strange-looking characters and a mentor in a wheelchair.

"Doom Patrol" is set to debut on the upcoming DC Universe streaming service in 2019.
