AceShowbiz - Actor/director Rob McElhenney has walked away from the movie adaptation of cult video game "Minecraft".
The "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star had initially signed on in 2015, and began developing the script with "Wonder Woman" writer Jason Fuchs, with plans to turn the project into his feature film directorial debut.
However, McElhenney has since parted ways with studio bosses at Warner Bros., simply telling TheWrap.com the movie is "not happening".
"Band of Robbers" brothers Adam and Aaron Nee, who are also directing the forthcoming "Masters of the Universe" film, have now been brought in to rework the script, based on the Mojang AB building game.
McElhenney's exit makes him the second director to leave the project, following "Night at the Museum" moviemaker Shawn Levy's departure due to creative differences in 2014.
The latest delay in development has reportedly forced studio heads to postpone the originally-scheduled May, 2019 release of "Minecraft". A new date has not yet been announced.
Actor Steve Carell had been tapped for the lead role, although it's not clear if he is still attached.
