The 'Dumb and Dumber' actor is in final talks to play Sonic's archenemy Robotnik in the adaptation of the popular SEGA video game franchise.

AceShowbiz - "Sonic the Hedgehog" has found its villain in Jim Carrey. The Canadian-born comedian and actor is reportedly in final talks to star in the feature film adaptation of the popular SEGA video game franchise that will blend live-action and CG elements.
Should he sign the deal, the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" star will play Robotnik a.k.a. Doctor Eggman, a mad scientist and Sonic's archenemy. In the game, his plans for world domination are consistently foiled by Sonic. He uses his robotic creations to fight Sonic and his friends.
Carrey starred in a similar film with 1994's "The Mask", which mixed his comedic performance with CGI. He received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor for his work in the movie. His most recent feature film credits include "The Bad Batch" and "Dark Crimes" which were both released in 2016. He also reprised his role as Lloyd Christmas in "Dumb and Dumber To" (2014).
James Marsden and Tika Sumpter were earlier tapped to star in the upcoming movie, but their roles are currently unknown. Prior to that, there was report that "Ant-Man and the Wasp" actor Paul Rudd was offered the lead human role of Tom, who is described as "a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to take down the evil Robotnik." Paramount, however, later said that Rudd was no longer being considered for the role of Tom.
The studio nabbed the film rights to the classic game in 2017 and has tapped Jeff Fowler to direct, marking his theatrical directorial debut. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller ("Transylmania", "12 Deadly Days") are set to write the script. Neal H. Moritz is producing, with "Deadpool" helmer Tim Miller and Mie Onishi co-producing.
Shooting will reportedly start this summer in Vancouver, with a budget of $90 million. The movie is set for a November 15, 2019 release in the United States.
