AceShowbiz - New official photos of "Aquaman" have been released to tied fans over the movie release at the end of the year. Making their way out via Entertainment Weekly, the photos give first look at Aquaman's arch-nemesis Black Manta, Arthur Curry's mother Queen Atlanta, his half-brother King Orm as well as his mentor Vulko.
Black Manta, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is described as "a cunning high-seas pirate and mercenary." In one of the pictures, he is seen working on a prototype for his super suit, which famously blasts red plasma beams from his eyes.
"He's part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space," director James Wan tells EW about the villain. He adds, "Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story but our main story is about Jason and Patrick."
In another image, Queen Atlanta, who is portrayed by Nicole Kidman, is protecting her son, a young Arthur Curry, while speaking with someone whose face is unseen. The Queen's full costume and her crown can be seen on the cover of the magazine's new issue.
Another photo features Aquaman (Jason Momoa) facing off with his ambitious half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) who wants to declare war on the surface world. They're wearing their armors and holding a spear each.
Meanwhile, a behind-the-scenes photo shows James Wan giving directions to Momoa, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe inside a galleon. Dafoe plays Aquaman's mentor Vulko.
Another shot features Arthur and Mera (Heard) dressing casually as they embark on a quest on the surface world. Aquaman is also seen making a splash as he storms a submarine under attack by pirates in another photo.
Also starring Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, the king of the undersea nation of Xebel, "Aquaman" is heading into theaters across the nation on December 14.
