"Ariana and Mac broke up after Coachella weekend, but ultimately they were struggling a long time in their relationship," a source tells HollywoodLife.com. "She was holding him together for two years and everyone around her hated their relationship and knew it wasn't good for her."

Reports of their split first hit the internet last week, as a source said that their busy schedules played a factor in the decision to part way. The source added that the two would remain "best friends" after breaking up.

Ariana confirmed the reports when she took to Instagram Stories to share a picture of her and the rapper. "This is one of my best friends in the whole world and favorite people on the planet," she said. "I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for both of us!"

While Ariana seemed calm and collected while confirming the news, a source told HollywoodLife.com that the Nickelodeon alum "is very sad and heartbroken about the breakup with Mac." The source added, "She really loves him a lot still as he was there for her during the most difficult days as an artist. She does not feel like she will be ready to date anyone new anytime soon. Her plan is to take a break from relationships and focus on work and her music."

Ariana and Mac made their relationship Instagram official in September 2016, but they have been friends since around 2012.
