AceShowbiz - Rapper Kodak Black is thankful for his "blessing in disguise" prison sentence. The hip-hop star, real name Dieuson Octave, was sentenced to serve a year behind bars after he was slapped with a number of felony counts following a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team raid on the Florida home he was sharing with friends in January.

Several of the initial charges were dropped and on Tuesday, April 17, Kodak pleaded guilty to two probation violations, including driving on a suspended license and associating with people committing crimes. The rapper was sentenced to 364 days in jail, with 90 days credited for time he had already spent in custody following his arrest in January.

As a result, he could be released by October (2018) and will not have to face anymore probation if his behaviour behind bars is exemplary, and the 20-year-old is now thanking God and his lawyer for his good fortune.

"First and foremost, I want to thank the lord for this blessing in disguise which was sending me back to jail January 18 2018...," he writes on Instagram. "Second I want to thank the lord again for using my advocate Bradford Cohen... as an instrument to speak through him and work diligently on my behalf.

"I would also like to thank Brad for seeing me as more than a client and for looking out for me as one of his family members," he continued. "Last but not least I would like to thank the judge Michael Lynch and the prosecutor Michelle Boutros for giving me a fair deliberation and not over looking me and judging as the media and the nay sayers set me out to be...(sic)"

But the rap star still has another legal woe hanging over him. He is also facing prosecution for first degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly assaulting a teenage girl at a South Carolina hotel following a concert in 2016. He was indicted by a grand jury in October last year and freed on bail on December 1.

Kodak faces up to 30 years behind bars if convicted in that case.
