The video sees the 'Modern Family' star acting drunk inside an elevator and concludes with a scene of an elderly bellhop grabbing her into his crotch.

AceShowbiz - Sarah Hyland has landed in hot water over allegedly tone-deaf video which she shared on Instagram. As her participation in a social media video series for Warner Bros/InStyle Golden Globes after-party on Sunday, January 7, the "Modern Family" actress was featured in a video, which saw her acting like she was drunk.

In her piece, the 27-year-old, who donned a sexy black sequined dress with plunging neckline, could be seen looking totally wasted inside an elevator. She rested one of her arms on an elderly bellhop who was standing beside her, while the other hand held a glass of wine. She was swinging back and forth under the influence, and at one point, John the Bell Hop grabbed her into his crotch when she pretended to fall out of the elevator.

"2018 starting off great. Tip #1: When you drink alone. Drink alone w/#JohntheBellHop @instylemagazine#goldenglobes party," she captioned the clip. Instyle also posted the video on its Twitter account and wrote in the caption, "Cheers to a wonderful night! @Sarah_Hyland takes the first ride in the elevator at our #GoldenGlobes party. #InStyleGlobes."

Fans later were outraged and deemed the video inappropriate considering that a lot of celebrities used the 75th Annual Golden Globes Awards as a platform to voice their support to the victims of sexual harassment and assault through #TimesUp movement. "Really? In this climate? You show a young girl - drunk and falling into the arms of a an older man as doors close to give her no escape? Tone deaf much?" wrote a fan on Twitter. "Oh damn yeah this does look kinda bad. Considering the message of the whole #timesup thing," an Instagram user said.

"Perhaps not the greatest clip to show for #timesupnow dude was a bit handsy," another fan tweeted. Similarly, another fan added, "Wtf? This is way off base considering #timesup - InStyle should be representing women better than this," while another dubbed the video "just gross" and "a very poor taste" joke.

In response of the criticism, Sarah wrote on her Twitter account, "#JohntheBellHop is a very nice old man. FYI. *completely sober*." Several fans showed their support to the actress, saying that the video was only an "entertainment" and she "shouldn't have to clarify." Meanwhile, another fan said that the controversy sparked due to "bad timing."
