The 'Bumblebee' star expresses interest in taking on the role of Barbara Gordon in Whedon's upcoming film, which reportedly is still in scripting stages.

AceShowbiz - Will Hailee Steinfeld make a great Batgirl? The actress thinks so. In a new interview with MTV News to promote her upcoming film, "Pitch Perfect 3", the beautiful actress was asked if she'd be open to taking on a superhero role, to which she said, "Yes, absolutely, definitely on my bucket list."

Steinfeld played coy when further asked which superhero she'd like to portray, though she did express her interest in playing Batgirl in Joss Whedon's upcoming film, which reportedly is still in scripting stages, when asked about that role in particular. When the interviewer told her she would make a great Barbara Gordon in the DCEU, Steinfeld agreed as saying, "Thank you! I'm not gonna lie, that's kind of what I was thinking." She added, "But I wasn't... I didn't know if I... what to say. I would love that."

During the interview, Steinfeld's "Pitch Perfect 3" co-star Rebel Wilson also expressed interest in landing a potential role in a superhero movie, saying that she preferred one that's more suited to her strengths as a comedienne. She went on acknowledging the fan support she's received to play Faith Herbert a.k.a. Zephyr, before noting that she just wanted to play someone that kicks ass.

Steinfeld wouldn't be the first actress to express interest in playing Batgirl. "The 100" actress Lindsey Morgan previously fueled rumor she could be a frontrunner to play the masked superheroine in the project announced earlier this year after she took to Twitter to say she's "more than ecstatic" about "new project on the horizon." She didn't mention what project it actually was, though.

There were even rumors swirling that Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron were battling for the role. "It's an all-out war. All of them are perfect for it, and all have exceedingly good action credentials," a source previously said. Theron allegedly "has put the word out to her agents to get her that role-no matter what the cost. She thinks 'Batgirl' would be a great follow-up to her villainess role in 'The Fate of the Furious'."

Neither Warner Bros. nor DC has given a word on who will play the superheroine. Among the actresses who previously played Batgirl, who debuted in 1967's DC comics, are Yvonne Craig, Alicia Silverstone and Danielle Judovits.
