New 'Krypton' Teaser Trailer Gives Better Insight Into House of El

Backed with a daunting music, the 20-second trailer sees Seg-El running for his life from a masked, armed troop.

AceShowbiz - Syfy has dropped a new teaser trailer for its upcoming Superman prequel series, "Krypton". The new gritty trailer offers fans a better look at House of El and the city that Seg-El, Superman's grandfather, lives in.

The video sees Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) struggling to redeem his family's honor after being ostracized and shamed. He can be seen running for his life from a masked, armed troop. Backed with a daunting music, the trailer concludes with Seg-El saying, "The only survivor remembers the House of El."

Judging from the 20-second video, "Krypton" seemingly will give a darker twist to its tone which distinguishes itself from other DC-related shows on TV right now such as The CW's "Supergirl" and "The Flash". The grim aesthetic, if anything, reminds viewers of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford-starring movie "Blade Runner 2049" (2017).

Although Superman story has been adapted into many platforms, the highly-anticipated Syfy series arguably marks the first series to center on the legendary Man of Steel's ancestors and homeworld prior to destruction which demolishes the planet. It is assumed that "Krypton" may highlight what sets Krypton and Earth apart.

Hailing from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and executive producer David S. Goyer ("Man of Steel", "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "The Dark Knight" trilogy), "Krypton" is set two generations before the destruction of Kal-El a.k.a. Superman's home planet and follows Superman's grandfather-whose House of El was ostracized and shamed-as he fights to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

The series will feature a slew of DC Comics characters such as Brainiac a.k.a. Vril Dox (Blake Ritson) and Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos). Also set to appear on the forthcoming series are Seg-El's father, Doomsday and Hawkgirl.

"Superman being the most famous superhero of all time, he's never absent in terms of the tone and the feel, and also the stakes of the show," EP Damien Kindler dished at the San Diego Comic-Con International. "So, 'Krypton' is a story that everybody believes they know the ending, but this show really aspires to throw all that on its head and, from the very first episode, make people understand that we're really changing the ending and if you know the ending to story you actually don't and the stakes have much more to do with the present than the do about the past."

No premiere date has been set for "Krypton", but it is scheduled to hit the small screen sometime in 2018 on Syfy.
