AceShowbiz - tvN has unearthed a new preview for its upcoming variety show titled "Livin' the Double Life", which stars CL, Big Bang's Taeyang and Hyukoh's Oh Hyuk. In the 7-minute video, CL, who was born Lee Chae Rin, talks about her struggle to cope with 2NE1's disbandment.
"It was pretty difficult for me," she opens up. "I didn't even realize until recently that I was going through a hard time."
"I wanted us to go on as long as possible," CL speaks of 2NE1, of which she was a member until November last year. "I wanted to take a responsibility," she adds while holding back her tears.
Consisting of CL, Bom, Dara and Minzi, 2NE1 was a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. The group earned high popularity both in Korea and worldwide with some of their hits, including "I Am the Best", "Lonely" and "Come Back Home". Bom was involved in a drug scandal in 2014, sending the group into hiatus. Following Minzi's departure from the group, YG Entertainment announced the disbandment of 2NE1 in November 2016.
Directed by Jeon Sung Ho, "Livin' the Double Life" is set to invite viewers to delve into the dual lives of musicians and the often extreme highs and lows they experience on and off the stage. During a press conference of the show on Wednesday, November 22, CL opened up about her struggles to break through the American pop scene.
"The reason I went to the U.S. and the reason I agreed to shoot this show is because I wanted to give hope to young aspiring singers," CL said at a press conference for the show in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. "I wanted to show them that I could do it."
The "Lifted" songstress added, "It could also help other singers who want to foray to the U.S. I went there three years ago, alone, so my experience could serve as a sort of manual."
"Livin' the Double Life" kicks off on Thursday, November 23 at 10.50 P.M. KST on tvN.
