AceShowbiz - KJ Apa was involved in a car accident in Canada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 20-year-old New Zealand actor got into a car crash late night when driving a 45-minute trip from the set of his TV show "Riverdale" outside Vancouver to where he was staying for the evening.
The actor fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle into a light pole after an alleged grueling 16-hour word day. His car was reportedly totaled and no longer operable. The passenger side was heavily damaged. However, the Archie depicter suffered no serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for precaution and later released.
The accident has reportedly ignited protests on the set from the cast and crew of the CW show. Allegedly led by actor Cole Sprouse, they demand better safety protections during production. They ask for transportation to and from the set for those who work late hours.
25-year-old Sprouse is a close friend of Apa's. The former Disney star plays Archie's pal Jughead on the show. Rumor has it, the "Suite Life of Zack & Cody" alum initially planned to take a ride home with Apa on the night of the accident but he canceled it at the last minute.
"Riverdale" is currently filming its second season which is scheduled to debut on October 11. It will continue to follow Archie's life in the small town of Riverdale while exploring the darkness hidden behind its deceptively perfect image. It also stars Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes.
Due to the success of the show, a spin-off that revolves around Sabrina Spellman the teenage witch is in development. Titled "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", It is a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft, naturally.
The hourlong drama is described as in the vein of "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist". It finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
