'We've had an awfully magical time with each other and with you. Unfortunately, things change a lot in eight years,' the duo announced on Twitter on Friday, September 1.

AceShowbiz - This is such a heartbreaking news for everyone. Alex and Sierra, a boyfriend-girlfriend duo which consisted of Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton, has announced on Twitter that they have decided to go separate ways, both personally and professionally.

"We may be artists, but it seems the next words are some of the hardest we've ever had to write. Many of you have been keeping up with us for years; you watched us go from two kids who met on the beach in Florida in 2009 to a couple who won a TV show and released albums and toured the country," wrote the "Little Do You Know" singers, who have been dating for 6 years, on Friday, September 1.

"We've had an awfully magical time with each other and with you. Unfortunately, things change a lot in eight years," they went on saying. The duo, who nabbed "The X Factor (US)" $1 million recording contract back in 2013, further broke fans' hearts as they added, "And though we didn't tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year ago."

"But as everyone does know, we've been best friends forever and really tried to keep A&S going. However, we've arrived at a point where it feels better to branch out rather than continue making music together. This last album and tour were hard on our hearts. So thank you to anyone who ever watched videos of us, bought a CD, came to see us live, bought merch, or simply enjoyed the music and listened and shared with friends," they continued writing.

They concluded, "No band lasts forever, whether they dated or not, but we will cherish every memory, and our love for you will most certainly last forever," and added, "We have a lot of love for each other and ALWAYS will, and we are the real people behind the screen you're looking at, so keep that in mind before you say anything and please respect our privacy."

"Not to be dramatic but I don't believe in love anymore," a heartbroken fan wrote following the news of the singers' split. Another fan tried to respect their decision and opted for wishing them well in everything they do, tweeting, "it has been nothing short of incredible to watch you both grow over these past few years. i can't wait to continue to, regardless. i will always & forever support and love you both in everything you do. please never ever forget that. i will never be able to thank you enough for how hugely you have impacted my life. i love you endlessly."

The pair caught people's attention, including judges Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato, ever since they performed a sultry rendition of Britney Spears' "Toxic" for their auditions on the show.
