As the 'Bon Appetit' singer's hosting gig at the MTV event didn't go too well, 'they are freaking out that they hired someone who is terrible on live television.'

AceShowbiz - The folks on "American Idol" reboot reportedly are not impressed by Katy Perry's performance at MTV VMAs, which was held on Sunday, August 27. ABC and "American Idol" head honchos fear they've made a $25 million mistake by tapping Katy, who stumbled through a series of awkward moments at the award-giving event, as the judge for the upcoming "American Idol" reboot.
"They are paying her $25 million and she was a total dud [on the VMAs]," an insider explains to Radar Online. Their fear is quite understandable as "no one ever auditioned her [Katy] for her new 'Idol' job," according to the source. "They are freaking out that they hired someone who is terrible on live television."
ABC allegedly wants "a more modulated and thoughtful Katy." However, it doesn't mean that Katy is required "to change her hairstyle or revise her style team." The source explains, "They are asking her not to upstage the contestants the way some past judges, especially Mariah Carey, had the tendency to do."
ABC announced the "Swish Swish" hitmaker as the first judge on its "American Idol" reboot back in May. "I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the 'American Idol' tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories," Katy said in a statement, before adding, "I'm always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough - from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music."
The Alphabet is currently still struggling to lock down the second, third and possibly fourth judges for the revival. Lionel Richie, Charlie Puth and Luke Bryan are reportedly among the frontrunners, with Lionel and Charlie being Katy's favorites. The problem, however, lies on Lionel's team as they ask for around $10 million, which is a double from the initial price that ABC offered.
Hosted by returning host Ryan Seacrest, the revived show will premiere sometime in early 2018 on ABC.
