True to her words, Halsey released a new song titled "Eyes Closed" on Thursday, May 4. Co-written by The Weeknd, the song tells about a girl who tries to move on from her past lover by finding a replacement of him. Halsey turns the track into a perfect heartbreak song as she takes the ballad route to open the song, and flavors the chorus with pop-electro beat.

"Now if I keep my eyes closed, he looks just like you/ But he'll never stay, they never do," she sings dreamily on the chorus. "Now if I keep my eyes closed, he feels just like you/ But you've been replaced/ I'm face to face with someone new."

"Eyes Closed" is the second single off Halsey's upcoming album "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom" which is set to arrive on June 2. "It's this hyperbolized smash-cut fantasy Halsey cinematic universe interpretation of this very normal relationship I went through," Halsey said of the track. "I have human relationships like songs. I can have relationship for like 3 minutes & 40 seconds. I'm really bad at long term."

The track follows up the album's lead single, "Now or Never", which was released last month. The songstress admitted that films heavily influenced her music, including 1996's movie "Romeo + Juliet". "I had watched it over and over again," she said. "One day I realized as I was getting to the thick of the rising action of the record-- the moment where I'm getting to the thick of the rising action of the record-- the moment where I'm realizing that the love is this doomed, forsaken kind of thing."
