AceShowbiz - "Nashville" is welcoming two new faces. Rachel Bilson and Kaitlin Doubleday have been announced to join the cast of the country music drama as series regulars. Both of them are expected to make their debut in the second half of the season, but no details about their characters are provided.
"We welcome Rachel and Kaitlin into our incredibly talented ensemble," said co-showrunner and executive producer Marshall Herskovitz. "We fondly anticipate the second half of the season filled with surprising twists and turns that make Nashville so beloved by the fans."
Both actresses hinted at their roles with Instagram images following the March 9 midseason finale. Bilson posted a photo of Highway 65, the label formed by Connie Britton's Rayna, while Doubleday posted an image of the Bluebird Cafe. They will likely play characters associated with those places.
Bilson and Doubleday's castings come on the heels of Britton's departure with her character's devastating death. "I think [the length of time] had something to do with it," she said to EW about her decision to leave the show. "As actors we always want to keep challenging ourselves. Let me just say there were a lot of reasons. Some of them were personal and some were creative, and I'm probably not going to get much more detailed than that. There were a lot of things at play, and ultimately it was about making sure the show was in a good place."
A promo for the second half of the episode show Deacon, Maddie and Daphne trying to cope with Rayna's death as a family, but Daphne's rebellious side gets Deacon worried. Juliette struggles to make her comeback and Scarlett's pregnancy may affect her love relationship.
