While most of his contemporaries are still enjoying their holidays, Canadian heartthrob Shawn Mendes has been hard at work. After releasing his live album titled "Live at Madison Square Garden", he dropped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Wednesday, January 4 to perform his single "Mercy".

"He's had incredible year in music from a number one album to a sold out tour. Here to perform his hit song 'Mercy', please welcome Shawn Mendes," Ellen said during her show before welcoming the teenage singer. Donning a three-quarter-sleeve tee and a pair of jeans, Shawn began his stunning performance at the piano. He then walked to the center stage and effortlessly belted out the song over mid-tempo beats.

"Mercy" is the fourth single off Shawn's sophomore album "Illuminate", which was released on September 23 via Island Records. The song recently peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart, replacing his own "Ruin". With this achievement, Shawn becomes the third act to succeed him/herself at No. 1. "Mercy" also flew from No. 28 to No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking his fourth single on the Hot 100's top 20.

The 18-year-old singer/songwriter ended his incredible 2016 with a performance at "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" on December 31. He sang "Treat You Better" and "Mercy" at the annual event, which also featured some fantastic performers including Mariah Carey, Hailee Steinfeld, John Legend, Niall Horan, Demi Lovato, Lukas Graham, DNCE and Fifth Harmony among others.
