"Uncharted" movie is finally moving forward by finding its director. Deadline has reported that Sony has hired Shawn Levy, who helmed Hugh Jackman's "Real Steel" and all three "Night at the Museum" movies, as a director for the big-screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise.

Levy will direct the movie from a script written by Joe Carnahan. Carnahan previously said that he'd "love" to direct the movie, but he turned his eyes saying that he wanted to focus on helming "Bad Boys for Life", the action comedy flick which will reunite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

"Uncharted" will be produced Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad of Arad/Atlas Entertainment Production. Jonathan Kadin of Columbia will oversee the film which will feature the fictional treasure hunter Nathan Drake. However, it's still unclear if the movie will be based on "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" or "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End".

As of now, no detail has been announced regarding the start date, release date as well as the cast. It was previously announced that Mark Wahlberg was the frontrunner to play the lead character, Drake, who is a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake.

Levy directed several episodes of Netflix's sleeper hit "Stranger Things". The Canadian helmer serves as a producer of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi thriller "Arrival" starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. It's coming in U.S. theaters on November 11.
