The Dominic Toretto depicter says that with F. Gary Gray sitting on the helmer chair, the eighth 'Fast and Furious' movie will have a chance to win at next year's Academy Awards.

AceShowbiz - Director F. Gary Gray's "Straight Outta Compton" might have failed to win at this year's Academy Awards, but he has a chance to bring home an Oscar with "Fast and Furious 8". Vin Diesel believes that with Gray sitting on the helmer chair, the eighth "Fast and Furious" movie will have a chance to win at next year's Academy Awards.

While promoting his next film, "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk", Diesel told Entertainment Tonight, "I think he went into making this movie with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, going 'Oh, really? OK. Now I'm going to take the biggest saga in the world, and I'm about to throw Oscars at you. Wait till you see what he does!' "

" ['Fast and Furious 8'] is different. It's very dark," the Dominic Toretto depicter explained. "My character is conflicted in a way that is really going to shock you. He's coming off of a lot of emotion from 7 and the loss that 7 represents."

While the movie is not coming to theaters until next year, the 49-year-old actor promised fans in New York City could expect to see the first trailer before Christmas. "December 11, every screen in Times Square will be playing the trailer, and it's going to hit you like a ton of bricks," he said. "Everything is going to make sense."

"Fast and Furious 8" is set for an April 14, 2017 release in U.S. theaters. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Elsa Pataky, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Statham and Lucas Black are returning from the previous movies. The new additions include Charlize Theron, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell and Helen Mirren.
