Fans who have watched the first teaser trailer for "Power Rangers" may notice that the Saban movie is similar to 2012's "Chronicle", a sci-fi movie written by Max Landis. Just hours after the release of the upcoming movie's teaser, Landis himself posted on Sunday, October 9 a series of tweets implying that the Dean Israelita-directed movie is a copycat.

"I wrote a silly, fun, goofy retro teen action adventure movie. They fired me, and five or so writers later, it appears they made Chronicle," he wrote, noting that the two movies have similar gritty aesthetics and as well follow a group of teenagers who gain superpowers. "Yeah, it appears they hired the writer of Chronicle and he wrote a Power Rangers movie, so they fired him and made Chronicle instead."

The 31-year-old screenwriter also retweeted one user's tweet combining several posts on Reddit about the "Power Rangers" teaser. "So Chronicle Rangers?" someone wrote on Reddit. Another user added, "It looks like Chronicle with zords and I am pretty alright with that."

However, some of them claimed that the Dane DeHaan and Michael B. Jordan-starring movie was neither the first nor the only movie telling about "teenagers" and "powers." As one user put it, "Eh, the muted look is really the only thing that reminds me of it. Teenagers and powers wasn't exactly pioneered by Chronicle."

While Landis doesn't seem too happy about the similarities, the Mighty Morphin "Power Rangers" is still set to hit U.S. theaters on March 24, 2017. The color-coded superheroes are portrayed by Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, Becky G, Ludi Lin and RJ Cyler.
