The 'Late Show' host enlists former 'Daily Show' host Stewart and brings back his 'Colbert Report' alter ego to explain the rise of Trump ahead of the GOP convention.

Stephen Colbert couldn't explain the success of Donald Trump's campaign for the 2016 election. So ahead of the national Republican and Democrat conventions taking place this week and next week, he brings back his "Colbert Report" alter ego.

In a sketch that aired during "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Monday, July 18, Colbert visited Jon Stewart who has been living in a cabin in the woods. Stewart, who thought Jeb Bush would be the Republican nominee, was surprised that Trump rose to become the likely nominee of the Republican Party but he couldn't be bothered to leave his cabin.

The segment also revealed that Colbert had been living "off the grid" with the blowhard host Colbert portrayed on Comedy Central between 2005 and 2014. Also surprised to find out the likely Republican nominee, Colbert's alter ego headed to the "Late Show" studio.

Colbert then delivered the next segment, "The Word", in his "Colbert Report" persona. He explained the rise of Trump and the word "Trumpiness" which, as he pointed out, is different from "Truthiness." He said, "Truthiness is believing something that feels true, even if it isn't supported by fact."

He continued, "Truthiness was from the gut, but Trumpiness clearly comes from much further down the gastrointestinal tract. These legitimately angry voters don't need a leader to say things that are true or feel true. They need a leader to feel things that feel feels."

In another segment, Colbert spoofed "The Hunger Games" with "The Hungry for Power Games" to cover the preparation for the GOP convention. He channeled Stanley Tucci's character Caesar Flickerman as he took a tour of Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, where Trump was set to accept the party's nomination, before he got kicked off the stage.

Colbert will broadcast live on all four nights of the RNC and the DNC. Stewart is slated to appear in another "Late Show" episode this week.
