Ex-'Voice' Contestant Christina Grimmie Dies After Shot at Concert

The 22-year-old YouTube star passed away at a local hospital in Orlando, Fla. where she was taken to after a man opened fire at her on Friday night.

AceShowbiz - Former "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie died, a few hours after it was reported that she was shot after a concert in Orlando on Friday night, June 10. Her publicist confirmed the sad news, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord." She was 22.

"She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn't survive the gun shot wounds," her publicist added, "We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. If you'd like to give back to Christina's family in her memory, please consider donating to the families GoFundMe page in their time of need."

Previously, it was reported that Grimmie was in critical condition after an unidentified man shot her when she and pop/punk band Before You Exit were signing autographs and selling merchandise after their show at the Plaza Live Theater. Her brother quickly tackled the suspect before he shot himself. She was rushed to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, while the shooter died.

No one else was reported injured in the incident. It's not clear what the suspect's motive was or whether he and Grimmie knew each other.

Demi Lovato, who previously prayed for Grimmie's survival, has taken to Twitter to express her condolences. "#RIPChristina my thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones..," she wrote.

Grimmie, who started out performing on YouTube, finished third on NBC's "The Voice" season 6 in 2014. She also performed backup vocals for Selena Gomez & the Scene.
