Is it too late now for Justin Bieber and Skrillex to say "Sorry"? The Canadian singer and the EDM superstar are both being sued by an indie singer who accuses them of stealing her song for their chart-topping "Purpose" hit.

According to TMZ, Casey Dienel, who records under the moniker White Hinterland, claims in her lawsuit that Bieber and Skrillex ripped off the "unique characteristics of the female vocal riff" of her 2014 track "Ring the Bell". The riff in question is heard at the beginning of both tracks and is repeated six times throughout "Sorry".

The site says Dienel tried to contact Bieber's camp last December, but she never heard back from them. Also naming "Sorry" songwriters Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter and Michael Tucker as defendants in her suit, she's now asking the 22-year-old pop star to stop playing the tune and demanding some money.

After the news broke, Dienel explained her decision to sue Bieber in a lengthy Facebook post sent out Thursday afternoon, May 26. "I poured my blood, sweat, and tears into writing and producing 'Ring the Bell', and I am proud of the finished product, which Rolling Stone listed as one of its 'favorite songs, albums, and videos,' " she wrote. "I have worked very hard to preserve my independence and creative control, thus it came as a shock to hear my work used and exploited without permission."

"Like most artists that sample music, Bieber could have licensed my song for use in 'Sorry'. But he chose not to contact me. After the release of 'Sorry' my lawyers sent Bieber a letter regarding the infringement, but Bieber's team again chose to ignore me. I offered Bieber's team an opportunity to have a private dialogue about the infringement, but they refused to even acknowledge my claim, despite the obviousness of the sample," she added.
