Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to the big screen version of the cynical and lazy orange cat story.

The lasagna-loving cat is having another adventure captured on the big screen. A new animated adaptation of "Garfield" is in the works from Alcon Entertainment, which has acquired the rights from the beloved character's creator Jim Davis.
Alcon's plan is to build a new franchise based on the CG-animated films. Davis will serve as executive producer along with Bridget McMeel from Amuse. They will produce along with Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.
"Jim Davis's creation has been an international sensation for all ages for decades, and we are thrilled to bring an animated Garfield feature to the big screen," Johnson and Kosove said in a statement.
Garfield, which originates from comic strips, has been featured in two movies before. Bill Murray voices the cat in both 2004's "Garfield" and 2006's "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties". The former took in $200 million worldwide while the latter earned $141.7 million.
