The Compton native discusses his Grammy nods, which category he really wants to win and what he thinks about President Obama favoriting his song in new interview.

AceShowbiz - In the past 12 months, Kendrick Lamar saw himself ruling the charts with his latest album, "To Pimp a Butterfly", as well as its hit singles like the Black Lives Matter anthem "Alright" and "How Much a Dollar Cost" that's President Barack Obama called his favorite song. The rapper then capped off his big year with 11 nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards.

Discussing these achievements in an interview with The New York Times, Kendrick said, "Being acknowledged for your work is always a great accomplishment, whether it's people in my city, kids in the street, all the way up to the Grammys."

With 11 nods, which included Album of the Year for "TPAB" and Song of the Year for "Alright", Kendrick became the second-most nominated artist in a year following Michael Jackson. Talking about which category he really wanted to win, he revealed he wanted "all of them" and he had pretty good reason for it.

"Because it's not only a statement for myself, but it's a statement for the culture," he explained. "They're all important, because of the foundation the forefathers laid before me. Nas didn't get a chance to be in that position. [Tupac Shakur]. So to be acknowledged and to actually win, it's for all of them."

Of almost breaking Jacko's record, the 28-year-old humbly shared, "I'm still soaking that all in. Michael will forever be the greatest. I'm glad it was at 11. I would never want to even think about putting myself on the same level as Michael, simply because I haven't put in the work that he did. It couldn't be a better number."

In the interview, Kendrick also opened up about what he thought about Obama favoriting his "How Much a Dollar Cost" and about Future being his own favorite musician of the year. Asked if he followed Drake's highly-publicized feud with Meek Mill, he said, "Nah, I didn't. That's they thing they got going on over there."
