The Game appeared in a Los Angeles court on Monday, December 21 to plead not guilty in the case against L.A. police officer Onyebuchi Awaji. The rapper had been accused and sued for punching and threatening Awaji during a basketball game in March this year.

On March 29, Game played against Awaji in a pick-up basketball game. They were engaged in a fight after Awaji started the battle by throwing an elbow at Game, sources told TMZ. A video captured Game making an intentional foul during the game by punching Awaji in the face. The cop, who was off-duty at that time, sued Game in April because he claimed the punch might prompt serious injury in the brain.

In his argument, Game said that Awaji raised his fist first and that was when Game punched the victim on the face as a defensive action. Game did not comment on the report that Awaji threatened to unload his gun he put in his gym bag. Game reportedly fled after police were called.

In June, Game was charged with one felony count of making criminal threats and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge over the altercation. Earlier this month, Awaji testified in court that Game threatened to kill him as well. A judge ruled that there was enough evidence to bring Game to the court for trial. No date has been set for the trial but Game is scheduled to return to the court on January 11. The "Hate It or Love It" rapper posted a photo of him looking dapper to enter the plea on Monday,
