Universal Wants Angelina Jolie to Play Famous Monster
Movie

The studio reportedly eyes the 'Maleficent' actress to star in 'Bride of Frankenstein', which will be a part of Universal's monster universe.

AceShowbiz - Following the failure of Angelina Jolie's "By the Sea" at box office, it seems like Universal wants to reteam with the actress for a more profitable project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal eyes Jolie to star in "Bride of Frankenstein" and possibly "Wanted 2".

"Bride of Frankenstein" has been in the works at Universal for years with a script by Neil Burger and Dirk Wittenborn. The project is a part of the studio's plan to revive their classic monsters. The reboots then will be included in the studio's shared monster universe, which is being overseen by Chris Morgan ("Fast and Furious") and Alex Kurtzman. Several famous monster characters such as Frankenstein, the Mummy and Dracula will inhabit the said universe and interact with one another across films and storylines.

As for the sequel to "Wanted (2008)", it has been in development for a while now. With Jolie's character dead at the end of the film, Universal still tries to find a way to resurrect the character.

Morgan also wrote "Wanted", so maybe the studio wants to put Morgan and Jolie together again for both "Bride of Frankenstein" and "Wanted 2". Although there is no confirmation yet from Jolie, it is clear that Universal wants her to appear in either film.

The rumors about Jolie starring in the Universal projects are obtained from an article entitled "Will 'By the Sea' Kill 'Favor Movies'?" The piece cites "By the Sea", which has proven a huge loss for the studio, while also mentioning the recent failures of other costly personal projects.
