Christopher Nolan's 2000 breakout thriller "Memento" is getting a remake. AMBI Pictures run by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi will finance and produce the new movie. The studio has acquired the library of the Exclusive Media Group, which also includes other titles like "Cruel Intentions", "Donnie Darko", "Rush" and "Sliding Doors".

Andrea said in a statement, " 'Memento' has been consistently ranked as one of the best films of its decade. People who've seen 'Memento' 10 times still feel they need to see it one more time. This is a quality that we feel really supports and justifies a remake. The bar is set high thanks to the brilliance or Christopher Nolan, but we wouldn't want it any other way."

Monika added, " 'Memento' is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach. We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan's vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It's a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers."

There's no word yet on the cast who will join the remake or a timeline for when it will be made.

The original "Memento", written and directed by Christopher Nolan, starred Guy Pearce as a man who's tracking down his wife's killer but suffered from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. The film was nominated for best screenplay, best editing and shot Nolan to fame.

AMBI recently announced another remake project, classic film "La Dolce Vita" by Federico Fellini.
