AceShowbiz - "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa has booked a starring role on new TV series "Frontier". Netflix has ordered six episodes of the adventure period drama from Peter Blackie and Rob Blackie of "Republic of Doyle".

Told from multiple perspectives, "Frontier" is a drama following the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. The series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.

" 'Frontier' presents an outstanding opportunity for our company and we are thrilled to be in business with Netflix and Discovery on this exciting project," said Alex Patrick, president of Take the Shot. Erik Barmack, vice president of local originals at Netflix, chimed in, "We jumped at the opportunity to bring this action-packed series to our global viewers. The creative team behind the series has a very exciting vision for Jason and the show, and we're thrilled to be working with Discovery Canada on getting a vast, worldwide audience to enjoy it."

The pilot will be directed by Brad Peyton whose credit includes box office hit "San Andreas". Momoa is signed for the lead role. Also in the cast list are Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle, Allan Hawco and Canadian newcomer Jessica Matten.

The series is scheduled to premiere next year on Netflix everywhere except Canada. The first season will debut on Discovery Canada before moving to Netflix Canada in 2018.
