The 'Deadwood' alum is booked for a recurring role as Gideon Malick, 'a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery.'

AceShowbiz - "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is adding a TV and movie veteran to its cast for season 3. Powers Boothe has landed a recurring role as Gideon Malick, "a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery."

"Gideon is incredibly menacing and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward [Brett Dalton] would fear," executive producer Jeph Loeb says of the Emmy-winning actor. "Only someone of Powers' caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed."

Boothe won an Emmy for his portrayal of Jim Jones on 1980's miniseries "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones". He's also known for his roles as Cy Tolliver on "Deadwood", as "Curly Bill" Brocious in "Tombstone", and as Vice President Noah Daniels on "24". He recently starred on "Nashville" as Lamar Wyatt.

The 67-year-old actor is no stranger to Marvel universe, having appeared in "The Avengers" movie as a member of the World Security Council.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs Tuesdays at 9 P.M. on ABC. Other guest stars in the season include Juan Pablo Raba, Constance Zimmer, Andrew Howard and Matt Willig among others.
