The exhibition will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute from May 5 through August 14 2016, "will focus on the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion."
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute explains, "Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and pret-a-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."
Christopher Bailey, Alber Elbaz, John Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin, Noa Raviv and Alexander Wang, in addition to Ghesquiere, Lagerfeld and Prada are the designers whose work will be included in the exhibition.
