Movie

The 'American Crime Story' scribe is in talks to pen the screenplay of the upcoming superhero movie which is slated for a U.S. release on July 6, 2018.

Joe Robert Cole ("American Crime Story") is in negotiations to write the script of "Black Panther" for Marvel, TheWrap has learned. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige is tapped to produce.

The previous draft of the Black Panther movie script was written by Mark Bailey. Cole has been rumored to have written the screenplay of "Inhumans", but it appears to be merely a rumor as he is not currently involved in that project.

There is no director attached to "Black Panther" just yet after director Ava DuVernay ("Selma") revealed that she had turned down the opportunity to direct the superhero movie. She refused the offer because she thought that "it really wasn't going to be an Ava DuVernay film."

F. Gary Gray was also reported to be in contention, but Gray doesn't seem to be a serious contender as he is said to be the frontrunner to direct "Fast and Furious 8". Now, Marvel decides not to look for any director until they have a finished screenplay.

Chadwick Boseman is set to star as the titular hero a.k.a. T'Challa, from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaw, who first appeared in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", is also expected to appear in "Black Panther". Boseman's Black Panther will be introduced in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" before appearing in his solo film, which is scheduled for a U.S. release on July 6, 2018.
