Jack Ryan is coming to the small screen. A TV project produced by Paramount Television based on Tom Clancy's popular CIA books has landed at Amazon following a competitive bidding process.

It was earlier reported that the streaming giant handed out a straight-to-series order for the drama, but Amazon says it has not given a series commitment. Amazon, however, confirms that the "Jack Ryan" TV series is currently in development.

Hailed from "Lost" vets Carlton Cuse (co-showrunner) and Graham Roland (writer), the show will reportedly not be a direct adaptation of the books, but a contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA operative using the books as source material.

Roland will executive produce the project along with Cuse and Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Prods. as well as Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form and the movie franchise's producer Mace Neufeld.

The titular character has not been cast yet. In the big screen, Jack Ryan has been portrayed by Alec Baldwin ("The Hunt for Red October"), Harrison Ford ("Patriot Games", "Clear and Present Danger"), Ben Affleck ("The Sum of All Fears") and Chris Pine ("Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit").
