Martin Scorsese's "The Audition" will not be screened at the upcoming Venice Film Festival after all. The short movie was supposed to premiere at the annual event scheduled for September 2-12, but it has now been yanked off schedule.
"The Biennale of Venice regrets to announce that the short film 'The Audition' by Martin Scorsese will not be presented at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival," the organizers say. "We have just been informed by the production that due to unexpected technical problems the film could not be here in time."
"The Audition" will star such A-listers as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Robert De Niro. It's scripted by Oscar nominee Terence Winter ("The Wolf of Wall Street").
The film's addition to the Venice Film Festival sparked controversy since the film was reportedly financed by casinos in Macau and Manila. However, Venice director Alberto Barbera told The Hollywood Reporter, "It's a Scorsese film, not a commercial. The casino paid for the film, but it's not in the film at all."
