J.K. Rowling has responded to claims that "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is "too white." An article in Hypeable recently raised concerns about New York City in the movie would be whitewashed while the city itself was and still is a mix of cultures from around the world.
Rowling later took to Twitter to shut down the rumors that the cast of the upcoming "Harry Potter" spin-off is exclusively white. The "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" writer replied to a fan, "@Vividscarletsky Everyone in #FantasticBeasts is not white. Perhaps wait until you see the movie to judge? It is a trilogy and all the characters have not been revealed or cast yet. "
While not all of the cast members of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" have been announced yet, the fact remains that the lead cast is all white. Eddie Redmayne will play the protagonist Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol will play sisters, Tina and Queenie Goldstein, respectively, Dan Fogler will star as Jacob, a muggle character, Ezra Miller will play Kredan, Samantha Morton will star as Mary Lou, Faith Wood-Blagrove will play Modesty, Jenn Murray will star as Chastity, and Colin Farrell will play Graves.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" started production on August 17 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, in England. Directed by David Yates, the movie will hit U.S. theaters on November 18, 2016.
