"The Big Bang Theory" will-they-or-won't-they question has been answered. Following the cliffhanger in the season 8 finale when Penny and Leonard eloped to Las Vegas, they will be officially married in the season 9 premiere, showrunner Steve Molaro confirms.

However, Molaro warns viewers not to be too happy first, because "that's really only the beginning of the story." He goes on telling TVLine, "As fun and as great as it is to see them get married, that's only part of it."

Molaro says it's the right time for Penny and Leonard to take their relationship to the ultimate level. "We're nine years in and we want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun," he says, before explaining, "And I think this a great way to do it. Penny has had commitment issues for years and years now, especially when it comes to Leonard, and even she feels, 'How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let's just jump in and hope for the best.' "

Recently, Kaley Cuoco who plays Penny also teased about her character's relationship with Leonard. "Between Leonard and Penny... All the dreams came true for me," she said at the Beverly Hilton's 60th anniversary bash last weekend.

At the end of season 8, Amy told Sheldon that she wanted to "step back and re-evaluate" their relationship, just when Sheldon was considering proposing. Addressing this, the show's producers told EW, "The fate of the ring Sheldon held at the end of the episode ... will be revealed."

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 debuts Monday, September 21 at 8 P.M. on CBS, before it moves to its regular time period on Thursday, November 5 at 8 P.M.
