It is very common for "Star Wars" movies to feature unique creatures and galactic droids. The upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" seems to continue the tradition as it features a spherical droid named BB-8. In an interview with StarWars.com, puppeteers Dave Chapman and Brian Herring talked about how to bring the droid to life as well as revealed the specifications of the robot.

According to the site, the team behind the movie was trying to make the droid different from the existing ones, but still authentic. They also had to convince director J.J. Abrams that BB-8 could perform well in the movie.

Considering that the ball droid might become an integral part in the movie, the team had to develop it well. They want to make him come to life and convey emotion in order to fit in with the actors in the movie. "BB-8 can cock his head over and look away, he can double take, he can look scared, he can look angry. We managed to find a whole vocabulary of movement for him, if you will. We worked out a whole bunch of stuff. What would he do if you turned him off? What happens to his head if you power him down? Does he go down stairs? Does he go up stairs?" Herring said.

In other news, "The Force Awakens" is set to take over every IMAX theaters in North America for one month. An article in The Hollywood Reporter magazine notes that Abrams has booked all of the IMAX theaters in the U.S. as well as most of IMAX's foreign theaters. The deal, which is similar to the one made for the three "Hobbit" movies, will make the competitors like "In the Heart of the Sea" and "The Revenant" have no IMAX screening.

"The Force Awakens" is set 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi". Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson, the sci-fi movie will hit U.S. theaters on December 18.
