Director James Gunn confirmed the return of Diesel although it remained a mystery how Groot will look like in the sequel.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will include Groot. Director James Gunn confirmed that Vin Diesel would be back to voice the adorable sentient tree-like creature.
In a conversation on Facebook, a fan asked, "Will Vin Diesel be back in GOTG3." The fan actually made a typo but it got fans excited when Gunn answered, "Yes." It immediately propelled another question whether Gunn was confirming a third movie but the director soon debunked the rumor.
It is yet clear how Groot will return to the film. The character died in the first movie while protecting his friends but was later reduced to a tiny dancing sprout.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is hitting theaters May 5, 2017. No other actors have been confirmed to return but it's most likely that Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Karen Gillan will reprise their roles.
