Drake's "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" has officially gone platinum. The mixtape passed the one million sales mark in the U.S. after adding another 8,000 in the tracking week ending on August 7. The record has so far sold a total of 1.007 million copies.
"IYRTITL" becomes the first album arriving in 2015 to go platinum. Taylor Swift's "1989" is the only other project to have sold a million this year, but it was released in October 2014. It has cumulatively sold 5.124 million units including 1.463 million sold in the past eight months.
After learning of the news, Drake expressed his excitement in an Instagram post he shared on Monday, August 10. He uploaded a photo of the mixtape's physical copy and thanked his fans in the caption. "Platinum off the tape. Views up next. Thank you once again," he wrote while teasing his upcoming "Views From the 6" album that's expected to be released later this year.
"IYRTITL" was released without prior notice back in February via Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, and immediately debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with around 535,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
It now joins Drake's three other platinum-selling releases, 2013's "Nothing Was the Same" (1.72 million), 2011's "Take Care" (2.26 million) and 2010's "Thank Me Later" (1.8 million).
